Tangled in the Things of the World

One year, after a series of sermons on “Giving Everything to God”, We placed a low table at the foot of the pulpit.

This was to be a place where you could surrender the things of the world and give it all to Him. “What you need to do is to place something that symbolized the thinings  you ar placing on the altar of God.” (1 John 2:15)

It was either during the altar call or right after service you would find someone reverently repentantly placing something on this crude altar.

Here are some of the things that were found there:

  • A dollar bill
  • A piece of broken mirror (Thinking too much about myself)
  • A joint, yes the Mary Jane, Pot, Ganja
  • Photographs of people that they tied their hearts
  • A chocolate bar
  • A bullet (Hunting was first in this man’s life)
  • A little globe (loving the things of the world)
  • Marbles  ???
  • Notes with things written on them

What a wonderful way to worship God with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength.
These items spoke volumes to the advance that these worshippers were doing with their lives and in serving God.

Maybe it’s time to do this again.
