The Election Years

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.  The Lord looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. Psalms 33:12-13

English: Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth Presid...

Some people like to say, “There are three things I don’t talk about, religion, sex, politics.”

The election years can be and is polarizing among the populus. The year of the last presidential election our church was polarized. Some were for Obama others were against him. The other thing that helped us grow apart was the prop. 8 in California and prop. 102 in Arizona. These were defining marriage in our society through the voting process. There was an exodus of people who could not stand with their brothers and sisters who differed from them and decided to leave the fellowship.

The beauty of our country is that we can disagree with the ideals of our neighbor. The first amendment allows us the freedom to express ourselves without facing repercussions from our government. I know several Christian will not talk to one another because of political positions.

We must understand that it is not a political party that is going to save our country, it is the Lord who preserves it.

He is the one that will save our nation. Whether you are a Democrat or Republican the only thing that counts in the end and in the process will be God.

A study on ethics will reveal that issues that face us today are based on a moral or a spiritual principle. Physical or natural principles do not respect persons. It is just the nature of the principle. For example gravity works all around the world and it is consistently fair. If you violate the physical law that works that principle then there are consequences. If  you were to jump off of say the empire state building and say “I don’t believe in gravityyyyyyy”, then you would drop until something stopped  you. In this case  it would be the side-walk at the bottom of the building, or a person or a car.

Spiritual principles are like this as well. If  you violate them then there are consequences. So who determines what is right and what is wrong? Look at what Abraham Lincoln thought about this.

There is a tee-shirt I like to wear during the election season. It has an elephant and a donkey on the front and It says, “What side are you on?” On the back however it says this:

“My concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on Gods side, for God is always right.” – Abraham Lincoln

Seeing that our nation was conceived by God and was dedicated to God by our nation’s founding fathers. We need to remember Jesus and the Kingdom of God during the  time we appoint those who will represent us in public office. Do they stand with God or do they stand as enemies of God?

God is the only one that can save our nation from the moral decay and spiritual vacuum we find today. He is also the only One that can protect our boarders.

Joshua was ready to take on the Canaanites. He and his men dedicated themselves to the Lord, and were ready to make their move when the Angel of the Lord appeared to him with a drawn sword. If you should ever see an Angel with a drawn sword you bow in reverence or die. Joshua did and asked this question.

… Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant? Joshua 5:13b-14

Here the angel said, I am for neither of you, I serve the Almighty God. What he just said in essence was, “I am for you if you are for God.”

What matters is that we be on God’s side. The further we get from God the closer we are to unsettling times and we stand on dangerous ground.

Have you looked at the platforms on which  each of the parties represent?

After I published this I thought, Do we really have to choose between the lesser of the two evils or do we stand with exculsively with God?

  2. Ms. SpoolTeacher Says:

The “two weevils” are the candidates. The trick is to tell which of them is standing with God; and for the most part, they ain’t talkin’! Political Politeness is not very transparent.

  3. Lupe Says:

You are right Sarah, when we look at the candidates from what was required from public officials at the founding of our nation and in the early years, the candidates are surely the “weevils”. Now over 200 years later all we have is the party platforms. One is blatantly against God and does not come close to what was require in the early years. Then we must choose and it is hard with the political politeness and political correctness that shrouds what the candidates really stand for.

Elections are very important! It is the only time you can actually change out the bad for better. I have found a lot of candidates like to say they are Christian because it automatically makes them rightious in the eyes of their competitors. So many time I have seen people that go to church and say they are a Cherry Tree when all i see is lemons. Makes you wonder about the end times when all things will become clear to us.
As far as the condition of our Country, we have to remember like any tree, the roots are the life giving force, once that is destroyed there is no hope of Life.

  5. Lupe Says:

I agree with you Chaz, Jesus said you will know them by their fruit. Knowing what God calls us to be in character is important. We need make calling and election sure. Things like integrity, honesty, solid moral and ethical behavior speaks volumes. These are the things that people see lacking in the political arena.

Pastor AB said something that caught my attention. We need to ask God who His choice is for any political office and then vote for that person. Amazing that I had to get to this point in my life before hearing that concept. Since first hearing that, it is now my goal to do my best to make sure that I am voting for the person who God’s choice.

  7. Lupe Says:

Well we also need to realize even though we find a truly upright person; the majority of the vote will go according to Gods will. He is the one that will set one person up and remove the other. He may put some one in office to fulfill His plan of a one world government; that means that I may not get what I voted for. I know that I can trust God in which ever way it turns out. Although, we must always represent God’s values.
