Your Child’s First Teacher

Parents are the first teachers to their children. However, our culture tells parents that they are not  educated therefore not qualified to teach their children. It is amazing that parenthood has been elevated (?) to an educators degree. So the government sponsored programs go on and on and parents are not getting involved in the lives of their children, right on cue. Actually before there was an educational system there were parents.

God gave children parents so they can teach them and give them boundaries. Parents are to model life, process of decision-making and their beliefs to their children. The home is the first place where children learn about the values and foundational beliefs for life. That is something that can not be taught in our schools. Remember that kids that don’t believe in anything will fall for everything. Over the years we have proven that to be true. Parent, you are needed in the life of your child.

The first step that the parent needs is to have a foundation they can pass on to their children. What kind of values do our children need in order to survive our culture’s influences? They need a foundation to stand on that will withstand the age of time. That foundation comes from a love for God and His word. Listen to what is said in Deuteronomy 6:4-5, “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”

Parent, specifically the father, is the one responsible for the lives of their children. Get involved in your child’s life. Know what your child is facing and make sure that you pass them your faith and Biblical values. Teachers know that parents are not getting involved in the education of their children. In fact many of them notice that parents seem not care. This is not the time to give up. God gives you that authority and responsibility to make sure you do the best with your child.

“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.” (Deuteronomy 6:6-9)

Christian Educators know that parents are the first teachers in the child’s life. These educators are there to help the families fulfill the role in raising their children in such a volatile environment.
